Kolkata: A horrifying crime in Kolkata's Tollygunge area has left residents shocked. A woman in her 30s was brutally killed by her brother-in-law, Atiur Rahman Laskar, after she rejected his repeated romantic advances. Laskar, a 35-year-old construction worker, strangled the woman, beheaded her, and chopped her body into three parts before dumping them in different locations.
The crime came to light on Friday morning when locals in the Regent Park area found the woman’s severed head in a polythene bag near a garbage bin and informed the police. Investigators later found her torso and lower body near a pond on Saturday.
The victim, who worked as a domestic helper and had been separated from her husband for two years, often traveled to work with Laskar. Recently, she had started avoiding him and even blocked his phone number, which enraged him. According to police, on Thursday evening, Laskar forced the woman to an under-construction building, where he killed and dismembered her.
Police used CCTV footage, sniffer dogs, and evidence from the crime scene to track Laskar to his hometown in Basuldanga, Diamond Harbour, where he was arrested. Deputy Commissioner of Police Bidisha Kalita said Laskar confessed to the crime during interrogation.
This shocking incident has raised concerns about women’s safety in the city.
