72-Year-Old Woman Assaulted, Robbed by Fake Electrician in Thane

Thane: A 72-year-old woman living alone in Thane's Mira-Bhayander area was assaulted and robbed of her gold ornaments by a man posing as an electrician, police said on Friday. The incident occurred two days ago, according to Naya Nagar police station senior inspector Amar Jagdale.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Salim Choudhary, allegedly entered the woman's home around 9 PM under the pretense of carrying out electrical work. He then held her captive, assaulted her, and fled with her gold ornaments. The elderly woman, who suffers from multiple health issues, informed her family of the ordeal the following day, prompting them to file a police complaint.

"Choudhary was arrested shortly after the incident and has been charged with robbery and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," Jagdale confirmed.

A relative of the victim revealed that Choudhary had initially visited the house earlier in the day on the pretext of work. Later that night, he returned to commit the crime. "He told her he needed the gold ornaments to pay for his ailing mother’s treatment and promised to return them in two months," the relative said.

The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
