Horrific Ragging Incident at Kerala Nursing College: Five Seniors Arrested for Brutal Abuse
A shocking ragging incident at Government Nursing College, Kottayam, has led to the arrest of five senior students for brutally torturing their juniors. Read details on the horrifying abuse and legal action taken.

In a shocking case of ragging, five third-year students of the Government Nursing College in Kottayam have been arrested for subjecting their juniors to severe physical and mental torture for nearly three months. The victims, all first-year students from Thiruvananthapuram, filed a formal complaint with the Kottayam Gandhinagar police, detailing the horrifying ordeal they endured since November 2024.
According to the complaint, the seniors allegedly forced the first-year students to strip naked and hung dumbbells from their private parts. They were also assaulted using sharp objects, including a geometry box compass, leading to severe injuries. The accused further aggravated the victims' suffering by applying lotion to their wounds, which caused immense pain. When the juniors cried out in agony, the seniors smeared the lotion into their mouths as an additional form of torture.
The complaint also states that the seniors recorded these horrific acts and used the videos to intimidate the victims into silence. The victims were threatened with severe consequences, including academic repercussions, if they reported the abuse to authorities.
Beyond physical torture, the accused also allegedly extorted money from the juniors every Sunday to fund their alcohol purchases. Those who refused to comply faced brutal beatings. The ongoing abuse pushed one of the victims to confide in his father, who then encouraged him to approach the police.
Following the complaint, the five accused students were immediately suspended from the college and taken into custody under the Anti-Ragging Act. They are expected to be presented before a magistrate by Wednesday afternoon.
This disturbing incident comes in the wake of another tragic case in Kerala, where a 15-year-old schoolboy in Kochi died by suicide. His mother claimed that persistent bullying by classmates drove him to take the extreme step.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to strict enforcement of anti-ragging laws to prevent such incidents and ensure a safe learning environment for students. Investigations are ongoing, and legal proceedings will follow against the accused.
