Cabinet Approves PAN 2.0 Project with a Budget of ₹1,435 Crore

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the PAN 2.0 Project proposed by the Income Tax Department. The project involves a financial outlay of ₹1,435 crore and aims to bring a technology-driven transformation to taxpayer registration services.

Key Features and Benefits of the PAN 2.0 Project:

1. Enhanced Service Delivery: The project will ensure faster, more efficient, and high-quality services for taxpayers.

2. Data Consistency: It will establish a "Single Source of Truth," ensuring consistent and reliable data.

3. Eco-Friendly Approach: The initiative promotes environmentally friendly practices and cost optimization.

4. Improved Security: The project focuses on infrastructure security and agility for a seamless taxpayer experience.

The PAN 2.0 Project represents a significant e-Governance initiative aimed at re-engineering the business processes related to taxpayer registration. By leveraging advanced technologies, it will transform existing PAN/TAN services and provide taxpayers with an upgraded digital experience. This includes consolidating the current PAN/TAN 1.0 ecosystem and integrating core and non-core activities such as PAN validation services.

A notable aspect of the project is its alignment with the Government of India's Digital India vision. The PAN 2.0 system will enable the use of PAN as a Common Identifier across digital systems operated by specified government agencies, enhancing interoperability and efficiency.

This initiative marks a pivotal step in modernizing taxpayer services and reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a digitally empowered economy.
