A road rage incident in Navi Mumbai led to a clash between CISF personnel and a doctor, resulting in cross-complaints and allegations of assault. Police have registered a case against 10 to 15 CISF personnel, while an internal inquiry has been initiated by the CISF

Navi Mumbai: The Kharghar police in Navi Mumbai have registered a case against 10 to 15 personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for allegedly assaulting a doctor, his brother, and a friend during a road rage incident. The altercation occurred on the night of November 29, when a CISF bus reportedly came dangerously close to the doctor’s car, leading to a heated confrontation.
Incident Details
The incident unfolded around 10:15 PM between Utsav Chowk and Central Park, Kharghar. A bus transporting CISF personnel from Mumbai airport to their residential quarters allegedly drove recklessly, nearly colliding with a car. The car’s owner, a doctor and local political functionary, pursued the bus and demanded that the driver stop, objecting to what he described as rash driving.
According to police officials, the verbal argument escalated when five to six CISF personnel exited the bus and allegedly assaulted the doctor. The altercation intensified as the doctor’s brother and a friend, who were also in the car, attempted to intervene and were allegedly attacked as well. The windshield of the doctor’s car was reportedly damaged during the scuffle.
Cross-Complaints Filed
Following the incident, the doctor lodged a complaint at the Kharghar police station, claiming that some CISF personnel involved were under the influence of alcohol and fled the scene after the assault. Based on his complaint, a case was registered against 10 to 15 CISF personnel under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of rioting and assault.
The CISF personnel, in turn, filed a counter-complaint, alleging that the car’s driver behaved aggressively, verbally abused the bus driver, and attempted to assault him. According to a CISF official, their personnel intervened to defuse the situation as the confrontation drew a crowd, causing a traffic jam.
In response to the CISF’s complaint, police have registered a non-cognisable (NC) case against the doctor and his brother, pending further investigation.
CISF’s Official Statement
The CISF has initiated an internal inquiry into the incident. In a statement, the CISF emphasized its commitment to the safety and security of its personnel and the public, pledging to take appropriate action based on the investigation's findings.
“As tension escalated, CISF personnel attempted to resolve the situation. However, the gathering crowd and subsequent roadblock complicated matters,” the CISF noted, adding that two other private buses carrying CISF personnel were also affected by the traffic congestion.
Police Investigation Underway
The Kharghar police are currently investigating both complaints to ascertain the facts. Notices have been issued to the accused CISF personnel, and statements from all parties involved are being recorded.
The incident highlights the need for mutual restraint and adherence to traffic norms, especially in high-stress environments, to prevent such confrontations. Further developments are awaited as the inquiry progresses.
