Darbhanga, Bihar: A police team attempting to arrest a man in Bihar's Darbhanga district on Saturday faced violent resistance from the accused's family and local residents, resulting in a major clash. The incident occurred in the Laheriasarai area when officers sought to detain Jitendra Yadav, who is reportedly accused in a dowry-related case.
Chaos Erupts During Arrest
As the police moved to apprehend Yadav, his family and other locals allegedly attacked the team, leading to chaotic scenes. A video of the incident shows a mob pelting stones at police officials and attempting to snatch their firearms. The group also burned tyres to block a main road, hindering police access to the accused's residence.
Three officers, including two sub-inspectors and a constable, sustained injuries during the clash and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
"The incident occurred in the Abhanda area under Laheriasarai police station's jurisdiction when a warrant was being executed. The family members of the accused, along with locals, attacked the team and managed to free the accused," said Amit Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Darbhanga (Sadar).
Police Reinforcements and Crowd Control
To restore order, additional security personnel were deployed to the area. According to the SDPO, the mob used children as shields, limiting the police response. "We exercised restraint and used only mild force to disperse the crowd," Kumar added.
The situation was brought under control, and five individuals, including Jitendra Yadav, were detained.
Investigation Underway
The police have registered a case against those involved in the attack, and an investigation is ongoing. Officials confirmed that legal action will be taken against those who obstructed law enforcement and endangered public safety.
