PM Modi Inaugurates Delhi Section of Namo Bharat Corridor, Boosting Regional Connectivity

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Delhi section of the Namo Bharat Corridor, marking a significant milestone in India's infrastructure development. The newly operational 13-kilometer stretch between New Ashok Nagar and Sahibabad includes a six-kilometer underground section, featuring the prominent Anand Vihar station.

This inauguration marks the first underground segment of the Namo Bharat Corridor and connects Delhi to Meerut through high-speed regional rail services. Passenger operations on the new section will commence at 5 PM today, with trains running every 15 minutes.

Key Highlights of the Delhi Section

  • Extended Connectivity: With the addition of this 13-kilometer stretch, the operational length of the Namo Bharat Corridor now spans 55 kilometers, covering 11 stations.
  • Fares and Accessibility: The fare for a journey from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South is set at ₹150 for the standard coach and ₹225 for the premium coach.
  • Time Efficiency: The corridor reduces travel time between Delhi and Meerut by one-third. Commuters can now travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in under 40 minutes, and from Anand Vihar to Meerut South in just 35 minutes.

Infrastructure and Features

Anand Vihar, one of the largest underground stations on the corridor, includes three bridges over the Ghazipur drain for vehicle and pedestrian access. New Ashok Nagar station, the first elevated station on this section, is connected to the Blue Line of Delhi Metro via a 90-meter-long foot overbridge.

In addition to train services, a commercial center has been planned at the New Ashok Nagar station for commuter convenience. The station boasts a height of 20 meters, crossing above the New Ashok Nagar Metro station.

Environmental Impact and Future Expansion

To date, Namo Bharat trains have served over 50 lakh passengers. The full completion of the 82-kilometer Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor is expected to remove over one lakh private vehicles from the roads, significantly reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 2.5 lakh tonnes annually.

The corridor originates at Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and terminates at Modipuram in Meerut, with 16 stations for the Namo Bharat line and nine additional stations for the Meerut Metro. Construction is ongoing in the remaining sections, including New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South to Modipuram.

A Transformative Step

With its rapid transit services and extensive connectivity, the Namo Bharat Corridor represents a transformative solution for regional mobility, offering commuters faster, cleaner, and more sustainable transportation options.
