Mumbai: Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group and one of India's most revered business icons, passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 86. The industrialist, known for his remarkable contributions to India’s corporate landscape, died at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital due to age-related health issues. His passing has left the nation in mourning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over Ratan Tata's death, honoring his legacy and contributions to the country. Taking to social media, PM Modi described Tata as a "visionary business leader" and a "compassionate soul," noting his extraordinary leadership of one of India’s most prestigious business houses.

In his heartfelt tribute, PM Modi said, "Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. His contributions extended far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to people with his humility, kindness, and unwavering commitment to making our society better."

The Prime Minister further reflected on his personal interactions with Tata, recalling their exchanges during his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat. "My mind is filled with countless interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji. We would exchange views on diverse issues, and I found his perspectives enriching. These interactions continued even after I came to Delhi. I am extremely pained by his passing. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and admirers in this sad hour. Om Shanti."

PM Modi also praised Tata's lifelong passion for philanthropy, stating, "One of the most unique aspects of Shri Ratan Tata Ji was his passion for dreaming big and giving back. He championed causes like education, healthcare, sanitation, and animal welfare, leaving a lasting impact."

Ratan Tata had been hospitalized in Mumbai for age-related ailments and was reportedly shifted to the ICU after his condition worsened. Business leaders across the country, including Chairman of RPG Enterprises Harsh Goenka, have expressed their grief, acknowledging the immense contributions Tata made to both the Indian economy and society at large.

Tata's death marks the end of an era in Indian industry, as the country bids farewell to a leader who helped shape its modern corporate ethos with integrity, innovation, and philanthropy.
