Bengaluru has reported India's first confirmed case of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) after an eight-month-old child tested positive for the virus. The case comes amid a surge in HMPV infections reported in China.

The infant, who has no travel history, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. The Karnataka Health Department confirmed the diagnosis following medical tests.

The department has alerted the Union Health Ministry about the case and is closely monitoring the situation.
