Kejriwal's Wife to Address Mega Rally as Opposition Unites Against BJP
Get the latest updates on a massive rally led by Arvind Kejriwal's wife, Sunita, as she delivers a message from the incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister. Opposition leaders gather at Ramlila Maidan to denounce BJP's alleged manipulation of central agencies, amidst growing concerns over democracy's integrity.
Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is set to deliver a message from her husband at a massive rally organized by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. The event, titled 'Loktantra Bachao' (Save Democracy), is expected to witness the presence of opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, in a demonstration of solidarity against what they perceive as the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) alleged misuse of central agencies.
The rally, which comes in the wake of Mr. Kejriwal's arrest in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam, is being viewed as a display of strength and unity by the opposition INDIA bloc ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. BJP Member of Parliament Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized the event, labeling it as a rally aimed at safeguarding dynastic political families rather than democracy.
The opposition is anticipated to voice strong opposition against what they perceive as the BJP's manipulation of central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Income Tax Department. Recent events, including the arrest of Mr. Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, as well as the issuance of tax notices to the Congress, have intensified concerns regarding the alleged misuse of governmental institutions.
Several prominent opposition figures are expected to attend, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Tejashwi Yadav, Champai Soren, Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Tiruchi Siva. Representatives from the Trinamool Congress and Left parties are also likely to participate.
The AAP has secured permission to hold the rally with an expected turnout of over 20,000 people, with a particular emphasis on mobilizing support from Punjab. The BJP, meanwhile, maintains that the actions taken against Mr. Kejriwal and the Congress are independent of political interference and are conducted in accordance with legal protocols. Additionally, the BJP has criticized the AAP's insistence on Mr. Kejriwal continuing to govern from jail.
