BJP Announces Candidates for Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Ahead of Poll Schedule, Check the Full List
Ahead of the upcoming elections later this year, the party has unveiled its list of candidates, comprising 21 nominees for the 90-seat Chhattisgarh Assembly and 39 candidates for Madhya Pradesh, which encompasses 230 constituencies.
Breaking from tradition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revealed the names of some potential candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, which are expected later this year. This unusual step means that the party has shared these names even before the official dates for the elections have been announced by the Election Commission of India.
For the Chhattisgarh Assembly, which has 90 seats, the BJP has announced 21 potential candidates. In Madhya Pradesh, which has 230 seats in its legislative house, the BJP has named 39 possible candidates. This decision came shortly after a meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the BJP discussed selecting candidates and planning strategies for the elections.
The reason behind this early announcement is to try and address any potential disagreements or problems within the party well ahead of the elections. After facing some challenges in previous elections, such as in Karnataka earlier this year, the BJP wants to make sure things go smoothly in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. These two states, along with Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram, are all getting ready for elections in the coming months.
In these states, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, different political parties are currently in charge. This makes the elections especially important for the BJP. While there have been some issues with the BJP's ally Mizo National Front in Mizoram, and concerns about unrest in Manipur, the competition between the BJP and the Congress is expected to be intense in Madhya Pradesh.
Some interesting things to note from the lists of possible candidates include the absence of certain important leaders like former Chief Minister Raman Singh from Chhattisgarh's list and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Madhya Pradesh's list. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP's list includes five women, ten candidates from Scheduled Tribes, and one from the Scheduled Castes group. In Madhya Pradesh, they have nominated five women, eight candidates from Scheduled Castes, and 13 from Scheduled Tribes. This early announcement of candidates shows that the BJP is getting prepared well in advance for these important elections.
