CBI Launches 'BHARATPOL' Portal for Real-Time Access to Records of Wanted Accused

New Delhi: India’s law enforcement agencies are set to get a major technological boost with the launch of the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) new portal, BHARATPOL, designed to provide real-time access to records of wanted accused across the country. The portal, modeled on INTERPOL's systems, will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday in Delhi and will be accessible through the CBI’s official website.

A senior CBI official highlighted that BHARATPOL will be a first-of-its-kind platform in India, enabling police forces from states, Union Territories, and central agencies to seamlessly exchange information and submit requests for international assistance in criminal investigations.

“This platform will allow real-time coordination, streamlining the process of obtaining INTERPOL notices such as Red Notices, and enhancing overall efficiency in combating crimes, especially those with a transnational dimension,” the official said.

Transformative Tool for Law Enforcement

The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that BHARATPOL is designed to assist in tackling the growing challenges of transnational crimes such as cybercrime, financial fraud, organized crime, drug and human trafficking, and online radicalization. It will enable Indian agencies to access international assistance faster and more efficiently, significantly strengthening India's capacity to handle global security challenges.

Until now, requests for international cooperation were facilitated by the CBI and the National Central Bureau (NCB) via manual communication methods like letters, emails, and faxes. The new portal will digitize and streamline this process, reducing delays and ensuring efficient coordination.

At the field level, police officers and INTERPOL Liaison Officers (ILOs) across states, Union Territories, and central agencies will benefit from this platform, improving their ability to deal with criminal cases requiring international collaboration.

A Step Forward in Combating Global Crimes

An official from the Ministry noted that BHARATPOL would be a transformative tool for law enforcement, offering quick access to criminal records and international support. The platform will also address issues related to the pendency of state complaints, further improving coordination and efficiency.

“By facilitating real-time information sharing, the portal will empower law enforcement agencies to respond swiftly to crimes and security challenges. It is a significant step forward in India’s efforts to combat transnational crimes,” the official added.
