Independence Day 2023: 1,800 diverse guests, from farmers to nurses, invited to Red Fort

New Delhi: The upcoming 77th Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort on August 15th will be graced by a diverse array of special guests, reflecting the rich tapestry of India's society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in commemorating this significant occasion, as a carefully curated list of 1,800 individuals from various vocations and regions gather to mark the event.

The Defense Ministry has revealed that this year's "Special Guests" encompass an inspiring spectrum of contributors to Indian society. Among the esteemed invitees are over 400 sarpanches representing more than 660 vibrant villages, 250 participants from the farmer producer organizations scheme, and 50 individuals each from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

Highlighting the nation's dedication to development and progress, the guest list also includes 50 Shram Yogis (construction workers) engaged in the transformative Central Vista Project, including the iconic New Parliament Building. Khadi workers, individuals involved in the construction of border roads, contributors to the Amrit Sarovar and Har Ghar Jal Yojana, and those engaged in various other key initiatives have also been extended invitations.

In a heartening gesture, the celebrations will also honor the commitment and efforts of primary school teachers, nurses, and fishermen. Their indispensable roles in shaping the nation's future and ensuring the well-being of its citizens are acknowledged with this special recognition.

Additionally, as part of their visit to Delhi, some of the Special Guests will have the opportunity to pay respects at the National War Memorial and meet Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt.

The celebrations will be further enriched by the presence of 75 couples from each state and Union Territory, resplendent in their traditional attire, adding a touch of cultural diversity to the event.

An exceptional highlight of this year's Independence Day ceremony is the inclusion of 50 distinguished 'Karmyogis' (Corporals) from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), accompanied by their spouses. This historic gesture acknowledges their tireless dedication in safeguarding and enhancing India's national borders.

To capture the spirit of the occasion and commemorate various government initiatives, selfie points have been designated at 12 prominent locations, including the National War Memorial, India Gate, and Raj Ghat. An online selfie contest, hosted by the Ministry of Defence on the MyGov portal from August 15-20, will allow citizens to participate and share their celebrations.

While preparing for the grand event, the Delhi Traffic police have issued an advisory, listing road closures and alternate routes to ensure smooth traffic flow. Labeled vehicles will be granted access to specific routes, ensuring minimal disruptions during the celebrations.
