Debutant Amanjot Kaur had an exceptional performance in her first Women's One-day International against Bangladesh, grabbing four wickets and restricting the hosts to 152 in a rain-shortened match on Sunday. The game was reduced to 44 overs per side due to rain, and Bangladesh struggled to cope with the challenging conditions, while India capitalized on Amanjot's brilliant spell and restrictive bowling from Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma.
Amanjot made her mark early in the match, taking her maiden ODI wicket by dismissing opener Murshida Khatun. The Bangladesh batter mistimed a drive, and India's skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made a low catch at mid-off. Sneh Rana also contributed to India's success with a run-out, sending opener Sharmin Akhter back to the pavilion.
Despite a rain interruption, Bangladesh found it hard to score, and their top-order struggled against Amanjot's accurate bowling. Veteran batter Fargana Hoque played confidently but eventually fell victim to Amanjot's bowling. Bangladesh's skipper, Nigar Sultana, also fell prey to Amanjot, adding more success to the young pacer's tally.
The Bangladeshi innings kept losing wickets, and they concluded with one over remaining as the last batter, Shorna Akter, was absent due to an injury.
India had won the toss and chose to bowl first in this match. Amanjot and left-arm spinner Bareddy Anusha made their ODI debut, while top-order batter Priya Punia returned to the Indian squad after a hiatus since early 2021.
