Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Gujarat faced severe flooding on Saturday night due to incessant rainfall across the state over the past two days. Social media users, including Congress leaders, shared videos showing the airport inundated with knee-high water, with runways and terminal areas submerged.
Due to heavy rains and water logging around the airport, we request all passengers to check with their respective airlines before starting their journey. Passengers are also advised to avoid parking at the airport facility. #AhmedabadAirport #PassengerFirst #PassengerAdvisory — Ahmedabad Airport (@ahmairport) July 22, 2023
Passengers encountered difficulties reaching their flights on time, and authorities advised them to check with their airlines for updates on their flights. Congress national coordinator Deepak Khatri tweeted a video of a waterlogged road outside the airport terminal, attributing the situation to the BJP's 28-year rule in Gujarat and criticizing it as a reflection of Narendra Modi's model state.

The heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Gujarat's south and Saurashtra regions led to a flood-like situation in urban areas, while villages faced isolation as water levels in dams and rivers surged to dangerous levels.
In response, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted rescue operations in Junagadh district. NDRF personnel assisted the public in crossing flooded and waterlogged areas to reach safer places.
In Junagadh, the situation was critical as the region received 219 mm of rain in just 8 hours, leading to dozens of parked cars and cattle being swept away in the gushing waters. Residents were seen wading through waist-deep water, while some were rescued by volunteers from strong currents.
The situation continues to be closely monitored, and residents in affected areas are urged to exercise caution and take necessary precautions.
