A flood caused a lot of trouble in Gujarat. The authorities had to move 736 people to safer places, and they managed to rescue about 358 more. The flood was so severe that 12 highways had to be closed down temporarily.
Due to heavy rainfall and resulting chaos in different parts of Gujarat on Saturday, the state government had to close two national highways passing through Porbandar and Kutch, along with ten state highways. In response to the flood situation, authorities managed to evacuate 736 people to safer places and successfully rescued around 358 individuals, as reported by Gujarat Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar. He tried to visit Junagadh to assess the situation personally, but it was not possible due to the challenging conditions.
A total of 302 roads had to be closed, including 271 panchayat roads, as mentioned by Pandey. These roads will be reopened once the water levels go down. At the moment, 736 people have been safely evacuated to secure locations. The heavy rains in Junagadh, Valsad, Gir-Somnath, Porbandar, and other districts caused the state dams to receive a significant amount of water. The Narmada Dam is filled up to 67 percent, and other dams have been completely filled, as stated by the Chief Minister.
In areas where heavy rain has caused problems, nine teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been sent to help. Specifically, in Junagadh, two teams from both NDRF and SDRF are working together to carry out rescue and relief operations.
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in several areas of South Gujarat, including Gir-Somnath, Junagadh, Kutch, Porbandar, Valsad, and Navsari until tomorrow afternoon. In response to this, the Commissioner advises people to avoid going outside unnecessarily and stay at home for their safety.
