Watch: Chandrayaan-3 Spacecraft Captures First Images of the Moon
ISRO unveils the first images of the Moon captured by Chandrayaan-3, India's third Moon mission. The successful entry into lunar orbit marks a milestone in the ₹600 crore mission, as ISRO anticipates a soft landing on the lunar surface later this month. Explore the Moon's mysteries through Chandrayaan-3's journey.
New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has shared the first images of the Moon captured by Chandrayaan-3, India's third unmanned Moon mission. These images were taken after Chandrayaan-3 successfully entered the Moon's orbit on August 5, 2023.
The official Twitter handle of the mission tweeted, "The Moon, as viewed by Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft during Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) on August 5, 2023."
The Moon mission has been progressing smoothly, and ISRO is now looking forward to the Vikram lander's soft landing on the lunar surface on August 23.
Chandrayaan-3 achieved a significant milestone by entering the lunar orbit 22 days after its launch. The mission aims to explore the lunar south pole, a region yet unexplored by any other country.
The spacecraft sent a reassuring message to ISRO after the required maneuver was carried out flawlessly from the space agency's facility in Bengaluru. "I am feeling lunar gravity," said Chandrayaan-3.
The injection into the lunar orbit is a crucial achievement in the ambitious ₹600 crore mission undertaken by the Indian space agency. With every step forward, Chandrayaan-3 inches closer to unveiling new discoveries and expanding our knowledge of the Moon's mysteries.
