Surat Diamond Bourse: India's Gem Capital Now Home to the World's Largest Office Building!

The world's largest office Is now located in Surat, Gujarat, India’s gem capital, surpassing America. The Pentagon in the US has been replaced as the largest office building in the world by “Surat Diamond Bourse,” a one-stop shop for more than 65,000 diamond professionals.

The massive 15-story structure, which covers more than 35 acres of land, was built to accommodate the diamond business. It has nine rectangular structures that are linked to one another and project from the center, or “spine.”

With 7.1 million square feet of floor space, the office surpasses the Pentagon, which served as the US Department of Defense’s administrative center for over 80 years.

The project was finished In around four years, including the two years of delay brought on by the Covid-19 epidemic. According to a CNN story, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will declare the structure formally open later this year, and the first residents will move in in November.

Mahesh Gadhavi, the project’s CEO, told CNN that the office space will save time and resources for those who previously had to drive to Mumbai daily to conduct business. He said that moving enterprises to Surat was a “better option” since “some people have to spend up to four hours, daily, to come from their homes to their offices and back home again.”

Morphogenesis, a New Delhi-based architectural firm, created the structure. Gadhavi acknowledged that it was not the initial plan to beat the Pentagon’s achievement. According to him, “The project’s size was dictated by demand…,” according to a CNN report.

The cutting-edge structure contains elements that make it up to 50% more energy efficient, earning it a “platinum” designation from the Indian Green Building Council. It has a “radiant cooling” system that circulates cooled water under its flooring to lower interior temperatures. The offices are connected by a long central corridor that resembles an airport terminal, and the communal parts of the building are powered by solar energy. There are 131 elevators and 4,700 office spaces in the structure.
