Report: India-Pakistan World Cup Clash in 2023 Could Be Rescheduled Due to 'Security' Concerns in Ahmedabad

The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, scheduled for October 15, may face a major tweak in its date. As per a report by Indian Express, the date for this iconic rivalry match could be changed due to the commencement of the 'Navratri' festival on the same day. Navratri is celebrated with night-long Garba dances, particularly in the state of Gujarat, where the game is planned to be held.

Security agencies have raised concerns, advising the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the match to avoid potential logistical challenges and ensure public safety. Thousands of travelling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, making it crucial for security personnel to manage the event effectively. A source from the Indian Express stated, "We are mulling the options that we have, and a decision will be taken soon."

If the rescheduling occurs, it could result in a logistical nightmare for fans who have already made travel plans around the original date of the India-Pakistan clash. Reports have suggested that Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have even enquired about hospital bed availability in Ahmedabad before and after the night game. The possibility of mass hotel booking cancellations looms, causing frustration among cricket enthusiasts.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has convened a meeting in New Delhi on July 27, where representatives from all hosting venues will gather to discuss the situation, potentially leading to a decision on the India-Pakistan clash. With the World Cup's opener also scheduled in Ahmedabad between England and New Zealand, there are no updates on ticket sales, further fueling fan anxieties.
