Priyanka Gandhi Steps into the Spotlight: Contesting Wayanad in Her Political Debut
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra makes her electoral debut from Wayanad in the upcoming bypoll on November 13, 2024. The Election Commission has announced results will be declared on November 23.
The Election Commission has announced that the bypoll for Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha seat will be held on November 13, with results set to be declared on November 23. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will make her electoral debut as the Congress candidate for this seat.
Priyanka, who is 52 years old, had campaigned for her brother, Rahul Gandhi, when he contested from Wayanad during the general elections, in addition to Rae Bareli. Rahul won both seats but later decided to vacate Wayanad. This marks Priyanka's first official run for office, two decades after she was first seen actively supporting her mother Sonia Gandhi and Rahul during the 2004 elections. Until now, her political involvement has largely focused on Uttar Pradesh.
In addition to Priyanka's nomination, the Congress has named Rahul Mamkootathil as its candidate for the Palakkad Assembly seat and Ramya Haridas for Thrissur’s Chelakkara Assembly constituency.
Bypolls for the Wayanad seat, along with 47 assembly seats across 14 states, will take place on November 13. The Kedarnath Assembly seat in Uttarakhand and the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will also hold bypolls on November 20, with results for all contests to be declared on November 23.
