PM Modi Unveils Names of 4 Astronauts for Historic Gaganyaan Mission

Kerala, India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the names of the four pilots chosen for India's first human space mission, Gaganyaan, during a visit to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) on Tuesday.

The chosen pilots, Group Captain P Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander S Shukla, have been undergoing rigorous training at the astronaut training facility in Bengaluru.

PM Modi presented the astronauts with their official "astronaut wings" and praised them for their dedication and hard work. He stated, "You are the pride of today's India." He further emphasized how India's space achievements are inspiring a scientific mindset among the nation's youth.

Gaganyaan Mission: A Closer Look

Scheduled for launch between 2024 and 2025, Gaganyaan aims to be India's first human spaceflight mission. This ambitious project involves sending a crew of three astronauts on a three-day journey to a 400 km orbit around Earth, before ensuring their safe return and landing in Indian waters.

The mission leverages Indian expertise, industry knowledge, academic brilliance, and cutting-edge international technologies to achieve this feat. A significant milestone was achieved last week with the successful human rating of ISRO's CE20 cryogenic engine, a crucial component of the launch vehicle.

This announcement marks a significant step forward for India's space program, and the nation eagerly awaits the launch of the historic Gaganyaan mission.
