PM Modi Calls for National Unity, Targets "Urban Naxals" on National Unity Day
PM Modi emphasizes national unity on National Unity Day, warning against divisive forces he calls 'urban Naxals.' Speaking near the Statue of Unity, he highlights key government policies and calls for unity as essential for India’s progress and development.
Kewadiya, Gujarat: Speaking at the Statue of Unity on National Unity Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong message about national integrity and warned against divisive forces he referred to as "urban Naxals." The event, held in Gujarat near the towering statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, honored the leader’s contributions to national unity and marked the start of a two-year celebration of his 150th birth anniversary.
In his speech, PM Modi cautioned against groups that he said are trying to weaken the country’s unity for political gains, both within India and abroad. “These powers are running misinformation campaigns and trying to divide people along caste lines to create instability and harm India’s image,” he said, urging citizens to recognize and resist such divisive forces. Although he didn’t mention specific parties, his remarks seemed aimed at the Opposition, particularly the INDIA bloc led by the Congress, which has recently championed a “save Constitution” slogan and called for a caste census.
The Prime Minister also highlighted his government’s initiatives for unifying India, pointing to policies like "one nation, one tax" (GST), Ayushman Bharat’s "one nation, one health insurance" scheme, and ongoing efforts for "one nation, one election" and a Uniform Civil Code. He celebrated the abolition of Article 370, which removed Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, calling it a key step in honoring the Constitution and Sardar Patel’s vision for a united India.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to see unity as vital for India's economic growth, social harmony, and goal of becoming a developed nation. He emphasized that social justice and progress depend on national unity and encouraged everyone to work together for a stronger, unified India.
