Kailash Gahlot Resigns from AAP, Criticizes Party Ahead of Delhi Elections
Senior Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot resigns from AAP, citing internal issues and criticizing the Sheeshmahal controversy. What’s next for Gahlot and AAP ahead of the Delhi elections?
In a significant development ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot has resigned from the party. Gahlot, who held important portfolios such as Home, Transport, IT, and Women and Child Development, expressed concerns over the party's internal issues and its failure to fulfill promises made to the people of Delhi.
In his resignation letter, Gahlot pointed out unaddressed challenges like the pollution of the Yamuna River, which AAP had promised to clean. He also took aim at the "Sheeshmahal" controversy, referring to the ₹45 crore spent on renovating the Chief Minister’s residence. Gahlot criticized the party for focusing more on political ambitions than serving the people of Delhi.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla responded quickly, saying Gahlot's resignation highlights how AAP has turned into a "Khaas Aadmi Party" instead of serving the common people. Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva also congratulated Gahlot for his decision and hinted that the BJP would welcome him if he joins their ranks.
Gahlot’s departure is a blow to AAP, especially as the party heads into a crucial election season. With AAP already facing internal struggles and external criticisms, this move raises questions about the party's future just months before the Delhi Assembly elections.
