India Successfully Tests Long-Range Hypersonic Missile, Joins Elite Club of Nations
India successfully tests an indigenously developed long-range hypersonic missile, joining an elite group of nations with advanced defense technology.
India has reached a significant milestone in defense technology by successfully conducting a flight trial of a long-range hypersonic missile. The test, carried out on Saturday from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha, showcases the nation’s growing prowess in advanced military capabilities.
The hypersonic missile, developed indigenously by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has a range exceeding 1,500 kilometers and can carry a variety of payloads. This cutting-edge weapon strengthens India's defense systems across all branches of the Armed Forces. The successful flight trial was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists and top officials from the Armed Forces, marking a moment of immense pride for the country.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement as a "historic moment," emphasizing India’s emergence as a leader in advanced military technology. “With this successful test, India has joined the exclusive group of nations possessing hypersonic missile technology. It is a testament to our scientific talent and our commitment to building a stronger, self-reliant defense ecosystem,” he said.
The missile is a result of years of dedicated research and innovation by DRDO’s Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex in Hyderabad, supported by other DRDO laboratories and key industry partners. This collaborative effort highlights the success of India’s “Make in India” initiative in defense manufacturing, showcasing the nation’s growing self-reliance.
Hypersonic missiles, capable of traveling at speeds exceeding Mach 5, represent the next generation of warfare with their unmatched speed and maneuverability, making them nearly impossible to detect or intercept. This technological breakthrough enhances India’s strategic deterrence and fortifies its national security.
The success of this test places India alongside global leaders in missile technology, reinforcing its position as a rising power in the realm of defense. The accomplishment underscores India's determination to secure its borders with indigenous solutions while contributing to global peace and stability.
