A large fire tore through a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) school in Mumbai's Parel area on Monday morning, sending plumes of smoke billowing into the sky. Luckily, no casualties or injuries were reported, as the school was closed due to the Makar Sankranti holiday.
Officials stated that the fire was accompanied by two to three explosions, believed to be caused by electrical sockets near a storage area containing mattresses. These materials quickly fueled the flames, which spread to a hall attached to the main school building.
Firefighters responded promptly, deploying four fire tenders and four water tankers to combat the blaze. As of now, the fire is classified as a "level 1," the lowest severity ranking.
Earlier on Monday, another fire broke out in a 23-story building in Mumbai's Kandivali area. Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported in this incident either.
The cause of the Parel school fire is still under investigation. Officials are examining the electrical sockets and storage materials as potential culprits.
These incidents highlight the importance of fire safety measures in schools and other public buildings. Regular inspections, proper wiring, and clear evacuation plans are crucial to ensuring the safety of occupants in case of emergencies.
