Check the UGC's list of 'Fake Universities' identified as of March 2023. Stay informed and beware of unaccredited institutions. Ensure the validity of degrees before making educational decisions.
University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified and labeled 20 universities across the country as 'fake.' These institutions have been found to be in violation of the UGC Act and are not authorized to grant degrees. The highest number of such 'fake' universities were discovered in Delhi, closely followed by Uttar Pradesh.
In an official statement issued on August 1, 2023, the UGC emphasized that degrees can only be awarded by universities and institutions established under State Acts, Central Acts, Provincial Acts, or those empowered to confer degrees according to the UGC Act, 1956. Any degrees offered by the identified universities or institutions shall not be recognized or considered valid for higher education or employment purposes.
The UGC provided a list of the identified 'fake' universities, including Christ New Testament Deemed University, Commercial University Ltd, United Nations University, Vocational University, and others. These universities, based in various states like Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, have been highlighted as non-compliant with the UGC regulations.
Students, parents, and the general public are urged to be cautious and verify the accreditation of universities before enrolling in any educational programs to avoid falling victim to such unauthorized institutions.
