Strengthening India's Military Mobility: Indian Army Receives First Batch of Toyota Hilux

To modernize its fleet and strengthen its mobility capabilities, the Indian Army has received the first batch of Toyota Hilux.

After extensive testing in the worst weather and hard terrain, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta was presented with the first set of Toyota Hilux – Mountain off-Road Vehicles by Mr. V. Wiseline Sigamani, General Manager Strategic Business Unit (North), the Army’s Northern Command tweeted.

The pre-delivery technical evaluation involves putting the car through its paces on challenging terrain and adverse weather. These included regions with a high elevation (13,000 ft.) and extremely low temperatures.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor provided the MRVS. The army had just placed an order with Mahindra & Mahindra for 1,850 Scorpio Classic vehicles.

The Hilux is renowned for Its superior off-road capabilities. It boasts a low-range transmission, four-wheel drive, great terrain maneuverability, and a substantial water-wading capacity (700 mm).
The vehicle has a 2.8 diesel engine and both manual and automatic transmissions are available.

The deteriorating Maruti Gypsy that has served the Indian army for many years is gradually being replaced. For the Army’s mobility requirements, the new vehicles are predicted to bring in a new age.

The military is considering introducing electric cars. It should be mentioned that the IAF just purchased 12 Tata Nexon EVs.
