Israel's Defense Forces (IDF) announced Saturday that they have initiated "precise strikes" targeting Iranian military installations, intensifying an already volatile regional situation. According to a statement by Israel’s Defense Ministry, these targeted attacks come as a direct response to "relentless aggression" by Iran and its allied forces since October 7.
The IDF's post on X (formerly Twitter) detailed the rationale for this action, citing Iran's continued attacks on Israel through various proxy forces and even from within Iranian territory. The statement asserted, "The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th — on seven fronts — including direct attacks from Iranian soil." It emphasized Israel’s stance on self-defense, affirming that as a sovereign nation, Israel has the "right and duty to respond."
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the IDF, addressed the nation in a brief video statement, explaining that IDF’s defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized to protect Israeli territory and its citizens. He reassured the public that no new safety instructions have been issued despite the airstrikes, emphasizing that the IDF is actively monitoring the situation and adjusting its strategy in real-time.
"Our forces are fully prepared in both attack and defense," Rear Admiral Hagari stated. "We are conducting continuous assessments regarding Iran's movements and those of its regional proxies. At this stage, there is no change in the Home Front Command’s instructions for citizens, but vigilance is still encouraged," he added.
The IDF’s strikes follow a particularly high-stakes period in the Middle East. Tensions have escalated dramatically over the last month, with reports that Tehran had launched roughly 200 ballistic missiles toward Israel. With these latest strikes, Israel signals a firm stance against perceived threats from Iran and its regional allies, indicating that it will take further actions to protect national security if necessary.
