Government Blocks Over 100 Websites Linked to Organized Investment and Part-Time Job Frauds

New Delhi: In a decisive move, the Union Home Ministry has blocked more than 100 websites associated with organized illegal investments and task-based part-time job scams, following recommendations from the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C). These nefarious activities were reportedly orchestrated by overseas actors.

According to an official statement, the National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU), a vertical of I4C, pinpointed and recommended the blocking of these websites involved in perpetrating economic crimes and task-based part-time job frauds.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), utilizing its authority under the Information Technology Act, 2000, promptly executed the blocking of these websites.

The statement further explained, "Targeted digital advertisements with keywords like 'Ghar baithe job,' 'Ghar baidhe kamai kaise karen,' etc., are launched on platforms such as Google and Meta by overseas advertisers. The primary targets are often retired employees, women, and unemployed youth seeking part-time employment."

These websites, identified as facilitators of organized illegal investments linked to economic crimes, were revealed to be operated by overseas entities. They employed digital advertising, chat messengers, and mule and rented accounts to carry out their fraudulent activities.

The gains from these large-scale economic frauds were observed to be laundered out of India through various channels, including card networks, cryptocurrency transactions, overseas ATM withdrawals, and international fintech companies.

The I4C, an initiative by the Home Ministry, aims to combat cybercrimes in the country through a coordinated and comprehensive approach. The swift action against these websites reflects the government's commitment to curbing online fraud and protecting citizens from financial crimes.
