Drone hits ship with 20 Indians near Gujarat, Coast Guard in contact
There are no reported casualties. The Indian Coast Guard has directed the ship ICGS Vikram towards the distressed merchant vessel.
In a recent incident at sea, a merchant ship, MV Chem Pluto, faced an explosion and fire following a drone strike in the Arabian Sea. Thankfully, all 20 crew members, who are Indians, are reported to be safe, and no casualties have been reported. The ship, carrying crude oil, was on its way from a port in Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru.
The Indian Coast Guard swiftly responded to the distress call, dispatching the ICGS Vikram towards the troubled vessel, currently positioned 217 nautical miles off the Porbandar coast. Communication was established with MV Chem Pluto using a Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft. The ship, however, deactivated its Automatic Identification System after the drone attack, making tracking more challenging.
Authorities assure that the situation is now under control, emphasizing the Coast Guard's prompt action to ensure the safety of both the crew and the vessel. As the ICGS Vikram is en route to join MV Chem Pluto, the ship is expected to reach Mumbai early on Monday. This incident comes closely following the Indian Navy's recent involvement in the rescue of an injured sailor from a hijacked Malta-flagged cargo vessel in the Arabian Sea
