An Azerbaijan Airlines plane with 62 passengers and five crew members onboard crashed and burst into flames near Aktau city in Kazakhstan. The Embraer 190 aircraft was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, but was rerouted due to heavy fog in Grozny.
According to Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry, the plane stalled and crashed into an open field approximately three kilometers from Aktau after circling the area and requesting an emergency landing. Dramatic visuals captured the aircraft losing altitude and banking sharply before the crash.
Rescue efforts at the site are underway. Ambulances were seen arriving as emergency responders rescued several survivors, some of whom deboarded through the plane’s rear emergency exit.
Azerbaijan Airlines, the country’s flag carrier, confirmed the incident, stating the plane "made an emergency landing." The crash occurred near Aktau Airport, an oil and gas hub on the Caspian Sea's eastern shore.
