Prasar Bharati Launches OTT Platform ‘Waves’ with Family-Friendly Content

Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, has launched its own OTT platform named ‘Waves’, aimed at offering diverse and family-friendly content. The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms and carries the tagline “Waves – Family Entertainment Ki Nayi Lehar.”
The launch took place at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where Chief Minister Pramod Sawant called it a major milestone for India’s entertainment industry. Highlighting its multilingual offerings, Sawant praised the inclusion of content in languages like Konkani.
Features of ‘Waves’
‘Waves’ provides content in over 12 languages, including Hindi, English, Marathi, Tamil, and Assamese, across categories like infotainment, gaming, education, and shopping. It includes:
- 65 live TV channels
- Video-on-demand
- Free-to-play games
- Online shopping in collaboration with ONDC
Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said the platform is a step toward achieving the Digital India vision by making content accessible to rural audiences through BharatNet.
Supporting Creators and Showcasing Talent
Navneet Kumar Sehgal, Chairman of Prasar Bharati, described ‘Waves’ as a one-stop hub for family-friendly content, promoting India’s cultural heritage. CEO Gaurav Dwivedi emphasized its support for young creators, including partnerships with film schools like FTII and Annapurna Studios. Popular creators like Kamiya Jani and RJ Raunac have joined the platform.
Exciting Content Line-Up
The platform will debut new shows and movies during IFFI 2024, such as:
- ‘Roll No. 52’ starring Nagarjuna and Amala Akkineni
- ‘Fauji 2.0’ featuring Gauhar Khan
- ‘Kicking Balls’ by Guneet Monga Kapoor
It also offers animations like ‘Chota Bheem’, music shows, and thrillers, along with live coverage of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Ayodhya’s aarti, and international events like the US Premier League Cricket Tournament.
‘Waves’ has also partnered with CDAC to launch a cyber-security awareness campaign, aiming to provide clean, engaging, and educational content for families, kids, and youth.
