Prabhas' highly anticipated project, previously known as Project K, has been officially titled "Kalki 2898 AD," with Nag Ashwin as the director. Making its debut at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) in 2023, the film has achieved the honor of being the first Indian movie to be featured at the event. Starring alongside Prabhas are esteemed actors Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. The film's title and teaser were unveiled during the event on July 20, offering a glimpse into the futuristic world of Kalki 2898 AD, where the protagonists are entangled in a fierce battle against dark forces. The movie is scheduled for release in 2024.
Before the SDCC premiere, Prabhas' first look poster for "Kalki 2898 AD" was revealed on July 19. The subsequent teaser was launched at SDCC in the United States, with Prabhas and Kamal Haasan presenting it under the title, "This is Project K: First Glimpse of India’s Mytho-Sci-fi Epic." Set in the distant future of 2898 AD, the film seamlessly blends futuristic elements with compelling storytelling, promising an unparalleled and immersive cinematic experience.
The teaser showcases Prabhas, Deepika, and others as characters grappling with dark forces and advanced technology. It conveys the message, "When the world is taken over by darkness, a force will arise. The end begins now."
In the teaser, Deepika's character is portrayed as an army recruit, while Prabhas plays the role of a courageous warrior. Amitabh Bachchan's character appears draped in bandages, adding to the intrigue. The teaser also hints at the central question, "What is Project K?"
'Kalki 2898 AD' is written and directed by Nag Ashwin, acclaimed for his work in the biopic "Mahanati." The movie was announced on the 50th anniversary of Vyjayanthi Movies and has been produced with an impressive budget of Rs 600 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film to date. The movie, releasing in theaters on January 12, 2024, boasts a stellar cast, including Disha Patani in a significant role. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, the film features music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic, and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.
