According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the residents in the region may be buying the “most expensive” flour in the world as the price of flour in Pakistan’s Karachi reached a new height of $3200 per 20 kilogram, costing 320 for 1 kg of flour.

The cost of flour In Karachi is higher than it is in Punjab and Islamabad.

A 20kg bag of flour has seen a 200 percent price increase in Karachi, bringing the cost to $3,200. The 20kg bag was sold in Hyderabad for 3,040 following a 140 percent price rise, according to ARY news.

A 20kg bag's price climbed by 106, 133, 200, and 300 in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, and Khuzdar, respectively.

Additionally, the cost of a 20 kg bag of flour climbed by 146, 93, 120, and 100, respectively, in Bahawalpur, Multan, Sukkur, and Quetta. Prior to this, it was claimed that soaring inflation caused sugar prices to likewise soar to a record high of up to 160 per kg in retail stores across Pakistan.

According to ARY News, which cited PBS, sugar prices at the retail level increased to 150 in several regions of the nation, including Karachi, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi.

In the meantime, the price of the sweetener in Lahore and Quetta was 145 and 142, respectively.
Notably, Pakistan’s Karachi was listed by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) as one of the top five “least livable” cities in the world, according to Dawn.

Karachi is placed 169th out of a total of 173 cities on the EIU’s Global Livability Index 2023. Karachi is ranked lower than only Lagos, Algiers, Tripoli, and Damascus.

The livability factor is scored and evaluated on a scale of 1 to 100, where 1 is deemed intolerable and 100 is regarded optimal.

The city had a less-than-ideal total score of 42.5. With a score of 20, which is identical to 2022, it did the worst on the stability indicator, indicating that little has changed over the last year. It received a 50 on the healthcare scale, a 38.7 on the environment and culture scale, a 75 on education, and a 51.8 on infrastructure.
