Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh Suspended from Rajya Sabha for 'Repeatedly Violating Chair's Directions

New Delhi, Monday: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh faced suspension from Rajya Sabha on Monday after repeatedly violating the directions of the chair during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. The senior AAP leader will be unable to participate in the remainder of the session following Vice President Dhankhar's decision to suspend him.

Last week, Vice President Dhankhar had reprimanded Sanjay Singh for his continuous protests against the central government's proposed bill to replace the ordinance on control over services in Delhi. Dhankhar warned Singh that he would be named for 'unruly behavior' if he persisted with his disruptive actions.

Union Commerce Minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal, proposed the motion for Singh's suspension, citing that his conduct was against the ethics and rules of the House. Urging VP Dhankhar to take action, Goyal emphasized that such behavior, disturbing the House, should not be tolerated.

Following a voice vote, VP Dhankhar suspended Sanjay Singh for the entire monsoon session of Parliament. Subsequently, the proceedings of the House were adjourned till 2 PM as opposition members continued to create uproar.

In response to the suspension, AAP and other opposition parties have been demanding that Prime Minister Modi make a statement on the Manipur issue on the floor of the house and agree to a detailed discussion. While the government has agreed to a short-duration discussion on Manipur, opposition parties want a more comprehensive debate and have served notices under Rule 267 for the suspension of business in the House.

Reacting to his fellow party member's suspension, AAP member Raghav Chadha expressed disappointment, calling it against the spirit of democracy. He, along with other AAP members, requested the Chairman to revoke the suspension and stressed the importance of engaging in healthy discussions among MPs. During the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, opposition members walked out as they felt their concerns were not being adequately addressed.

The situation has escalated tensions within the Parliament, with discussions on crucial issues being affected by the suspension of Sanjay Singh and the ongoing demands for a detailed discussion on the Manipur matter.
